I mentioned in a previous post how autofocus changed things for me. I would be remiss if I did not say digital was equally transformative. I can remember trying to record my settings so that when I looked at the finished print I could understand how fstop and shutter speed related to what I was getting. That was a nightmare – I could never remember to record my settings in a consistent way. Now I get the metadata with the picture and can easily run through all the variations of fstop, shutter speed and ISO and she how various combinations work. Also since I am not paying for film and printing this does not strain the pocketbook. This has also allowed me to change my ISO settings so I can take a variety of subject at the same time rather than having to change film if I was moving my birds in flight to flowers.
